I do know on my mom's 2003 the check arm is very similar to my 2004 so I'd imagine the process would be similar to change it.

Thanks, I will try today. The one on the donor truck is in good shape so I'm gonna try to swap it into mine.

I don't have room to get around the ebrake. Do I have to unbolt the ebrake?

FYI - On my 2004 FX4 Supercap, I did not have to remove the kickplate or the emergency brake. There was a flexible rubber cover on the side panel behind the emergency brake bracket. It covered fiberglass insulation. When I pulled the rubber covering away (it's just pressed in), I could pull the door check thru and put the new one in. My hands are a bit small but I don't think pulling the e-brake will make much difference.

Default Just replaced my door check

Replacing the driver side door check on my 2004 f150 was simple and quick. Tools required 10mm deep socket and T30 torx socket head for your ratchet. Open door and sit on nerf bar. Lay back on drivers floor and with flashlight in hand look were you would expect to see the check. It is not there but do not despair, it is behind a soft gasket with an L on it on my truck. You can remove the gasket without any tools. Look inside and you will see the back of the check. From here it takes less then 10 minutes to replace. Remove screws on door first these were torx on my 04. Then take the nuts off the check mounted to the door jamb. Reach into the void were you removed the gasket and twist the check to get it out. Remember what you did so you can reverse what worked to put the new one in. Reinstall the nuts then install the screws and you are done. I got the check from the dealer at a cost of $44.89. I did not remove the parking brake or the kick panel to do this. If you truck is older than 04 or newer than 08 it may be different. Hope this helps.
Ps. Wear latex gloves to grab the check. I appears to be packed with grease that runs when you pull it out and takes longer to get off your hands then it does to switch the check. If your truck is pretty cover the floors too just in case.

Where did the rest of you guys buy your door checks? I didn't find it on rockauto. I know I can go to the dealer otherwise and get one. I was just hoping to save a little money.

I will be doing this (actually having it done I hope) Monday as the bolts into the door sheared off leaving the bolt ends in the door and near flush with the door...the door check fell inside the driver's side front fender...

I was able to find a Dorman version of the door check (what several manufacturers call it) on Rock Auto but I had seen in also on Amazon from Dorman and Ford...Dorman is about $26 shipped and the Ford part about $15 more shipped but were out of stock when I checked...

I may try to fiddle around to see if I can remove the broken remnants of the door check from the front fender...also to add that I do not think the door check comes with any hardware so whatever is used needs to be replaced unless you already have it on yours...
