Default Doing timing and other preventative maintenance

I致e ordered New;
Timing kit(FoMoCo)
Fel-pro valve cover gaskets
MotoVector COP
FoMoCo roller rocker arms
Michigan Motor sports lash adjusters
Melling 20% oil pump
A-premium power steering pump
FoMoCo fan clutch and water pump
Yaopei VCT solenoids
Motorcraft sp546 spark plugs

I知 planning on doing this over a weekend once I have all the parts, tools and hardware I ordered in. I知 looking for any tips that could help make this go as smooth as possible. I致e watched fordtechmakuloco(thank goodness for him) 4 part series and will be following along with it while doing this but I知 adding a bit more than he covers.

I知 also going to do exhaust manifolds and gaskets and fuel pump control kit. 4wd solenoid upgrade. New steering shaft. Replacing nerf bars with running boards. But these are kind of separate from all the timing and what not.

I just bought this truck 2 months ago and only noticed a rocker tick and a little chain clatter when it first starts. No where in the history of the truck does it show how much maintenance, like oil changes, or engine work has been done. So I知 just going to get ahead of any issues.

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

Lets see here.

You did good with:
Fel-Pro gaskets
FoMoCo timing kit
Melling oil pump. M340HV or M360HV?
FoMoCo rocker arms
FoMoCo fan clutch and water pump
Motorcraft SP546

These are suspect:
Michigan Motor sports lash adjusters
A-premium power steering pump

You failed with:
MotoVector COP -- Motorcraft or Denso only (MSD is owned by Holley now and is suspect)
Yaopei VCT solenoids -- Melling or Motorcraft only

Do you really think you'll be able to get ALL of this done over the weekend? It took me an entire week (and 40-45 hours) to do mine.

Thanks for the reply.

Its the Melling M340HV.

I知 basing my decisions on the reviews on amazon, plus I don稚 haul anything or do any hard work with this truck. Fingers crossed.

As as far as getting it done over a weekend, I hope. But if not no big deal. My brother will most likely be helping me as I値l be using his garage and he has a ton of tools for the job. He痴 a pretty experienced mechanic.

Thanks,
Ben

I agree with @ShirBlackspots on OEM 'everything'. Other than that it looks like you are going at it the right way - do it all at once, and just once.

To that end, my only suggestion would be a couple of stupid simple things average commercial mechanics have to forego in interest of profit. Good oil flow is so critical to proper operation of the variable valve system, I suggest doing a thorough engine 'FLUSH' treatment (Torque up in 2nd gear several times to force flush through retard /advance chambers) right at shutdown. Then set engine to proper timing TDC. Be sure to remove VCT solenoid valve bodies and clean them (inside screen) and be "HOSPITAL CLEAN" with all passageways - blow out lash adjuster wells and oil passageways - even under CAM towers. Marinate (Soak) rollers / lash adjusters and Melling until install.

I'm not much on replacing COP's. I'd save that money toward new antifreeze or something else.

OEM everything.
Oil pump can be melling. COP's are probably fine. Just replace boots.
I wish I knew then what I know now about COP's. That way I didn't trash my OEM ones...
