Default Do I need a tuner?

I have an '08 FX4 with 5.4 V8. If I added a cold air intake and dual exhaust, would I have to have the engine tuned for it to make a difference?

Simple answer, yes. CAI and exhaust won't really make a difference unless the computer in your truck is tuned to recognize them. Those mods with a tuner would be night and day to what you have now..

Custom tuning would be the best. not a whole lot of gain on a gas truck, but you can change shift points and maybe pick up a couple hp. probably single digits though

SCT and Gryphon are the big ones. Not sure if the diablo offers custom tuning yet or not.

All we have to do is read past threads to get all of the same info. Yes a tuner will help. Best mod you can make, even with a stock truck. You may be disappointed after having spent all that money on the cai and exhaust and thought you would have gotten more performance for the money you have already spent. Two tuners have already been mentioned. I am not trying to be a wise guy, but if you don't buy today, you can read other threads that will ask the same or similar questions and make your choice from there.

I use 3 tuners, All 3 can remote tune SCT devices.
1. Justin at VMP
2. Eric Brooks at Brooks Speed
3. Jay and Real street Performance

Yes, you need one. I think ANY 04-08 F150 needs one, Ford left a lot on the table with these trucks. Custom tuning is the way to go regardless of mods or stock, its simply far better than canned tunes. There are many tuners out there who can write you tunes, some more experienced than others. If you want them ASAP, probably try VMP tuning or 5-star. If you want gauges from the Gryphon, try PHP. If you are willing to order then wait a bit for the best, Troyer Performance.
