Default DIY Cam Phasers

Has anyone ever tried doing them on your own? It doesn't look nearly as complicated as the dealer makes it seem

Google steve bassen phaser and you'll find a good guide. I followed it last week and it worked for me ( average Joe working in driveway)

I fixed the phaser tick for sure. My engine has no shortage of ticks, though. I just have another one to be aggravated by now.

I did not replace the lash adjusters or chain tensioners. The lash adjusters would have added another $250 or so ( figuring $100 for the tool), and the tensioners require removing the front cover which would have added more time than I had. I probably need both jobs done. Maybe next summer.

It took me 2 days to do the job ( none of this "my neighbor is a expert ford mechanic with a lift and a he helped me for free" stuff- i did it solo except for tightening the phaser bolts)

Again, it definitely improved my engine and I'd do it again. If you are determined, well stocked with 1/4 inch ratchet extensions and reasonably proficient, you will do fine. I'm nothing special in the mechanic department and I did it... Determination counts.
