Default different type of ticking?

2006 f150 5.4 engine. I have a slight taping/ticking sound coming from what seems to be the engine. Its very steady sound, it never changes due to temperature or temp of the engine. its just a steady tap, that increases perfectly when i accelerate the engine. its not a fast tick, more of a slower perfect rythm tick. Do you guys think its the exhaust leaking somewhere?

I'm thinking its your injectors based on your description. Normal for these trucks.

i was told it was the lash adjusters and or phasers and or whatever other crap there is in the engine. basically have to pull the front of the engine apart to fix the issue, im having mine done next week by my dealer

Check the spark plugs. I had the exact same symptom your describing, and I could smell fuel (although there were no signs of a leak), and I got super-crappy mileage (which was chalked-up to "I got a 5.4 w/ 4.10's"), but it's since gotten better. The truck would tick, but didn't throw a code, and didn't miss until the coils went out, and I had new plugs installed just as a "while the tech is in there" and the tick was gone, & so was the gas-smell. It's a lot easier than than some of the other options. Kk

Yep I don't really smell fuel but the ticking, crapy fuel Mileage, seems to b hesitant shifting going uphill occasionally almost as if its lost a little pep and has never thrown any codes. Pretty sure I'm sitting with oem spark plugs as my 04 only has 75k but seems as if it might already b time to replace them.
I just want that pep back and that ticking sound gone. So annoying sitting in a drive through trying to order food or pay with my truck almost as loud as a diesel.
