It won't improve your mileage by 25% like the above poster (unless he's loaded with a Gryphon and custom econo tune).... (sorry but no plug in generic tune can do that....not even the diesels which are highly more efficient and beneficial can get 4mph on a box tune...a gryphon tune on the other hand....)

I like mine for the firm shift points... you'll really like it when your on the highway and you give it the 'Go' pedal and the kick down is hard and strong........ no more slush bucket there....

It was good for about a 1 mpg.....city/highway mix

(FYI a Gryphon is an Edge with a custom specific tune)

Agreed I believe I experienced about a 3MPG gain both city and highway with a PHP Gryphon Custom Tune along with a custom exhaust and Gotts. It went to **** after the 33.5s though haha every 1/10th of an inch really does count. Definitely didn't experience a gain of four from just a custom let alone a canned tune. Tuners really just wake your vehicle up and squeeze everything out of the engine and transmission it possibly can. So that's why you commonly hear the phrase "wake-up" expressed by many members on the forum. A tuner will be the biggest step forward to modding and it helps prep you (if you get a custom tune) for future bolt-ons such as electric fans, UDP, and even Super/Turbochargers. Best investment you can make right now.

if your going to do anything to your truck at all... edge programmer is the way to go... then once your get a CAI or Gotts...get you a PHP Custom Tune... I can't wait til my custom tunes get ready. I can throw my passengers head back in the head rest and pass with ease again.

I have a 08 F150 with a SCTX3 programmer with custom tunes from 5star and a S&B intake. I also have cat back exhaust from flomaster. My truck could never break the tires loose before the intake and programmer unless it was wet out. Now it will! And at 80mph it feels like there's so much more gas pedal! She's building a lot more power than when she was stock.

I just want the extra power to break the tires loose. I don't plan on doing burnouts everywhere.

So the PHP Gryphon would that be the recommended tuner? Since that has the custom tunes? Or is the edge evolution the way to go?

Thanks for all the help again. VERY helpful.

if your gonna go the custom tune road, just get it from php first off. A gryphon is just a converted edge tuner. The edge evo can hold custom tunes but has to be sent off and converted and then flashed with custom tunes, the edge cs and Cts can hold them just by contacting php and they send them to you by email and you just download yourself. I can smoke my 35 bfg at's with no problem, but by powerbraking them, they just chirp from a dead stop. You'll be more than happy with the edge evo, I got mine for 250 off craigslist. I would of got it sooner if I would of known haha

Do you think I would need to get a custom tuner if I don't plan on doing anything else after this? I only have a cat back exhaust and slightly larger tires.
