Question Diagnosing an ABS light?

Hey guys. Never really posted on this forum but thought i'd give it a shot.

Last summer my ABS light randomly came on. I'm not really sure what may have triggered it, but it's came time to finally figure it out. What do you guys normally do as a first step diagnosis? I removed the rear sensor and nothing looked out of the ordinary. Is there a reader that maybe O' Reileys would have or is the dealer the only option? Thanks!

If they have the right scanner they can give you a code. Best bet is to get it to a shop. You may need a ABS sensor, or a speed sensor on one of the hubs.

Just read my 08 at Oreilly's it was a left front sensor...the ABS would work perfect one second, then not at all the next, then work fine again later...have yet to replace the sensor but its only like 125

It's only about a 30 min. job to replace, I pulled mine and checked it out when I was having trouble and it looked okay so I put it back, mine has worked ever since. I had ordered a new one and it's still in the box.....I paid $109 from Amazon.Com delivered!

just had my ABS light come on last week.

i had these codes, multiple times
B1342- ABS module failure
C1222-Speed sensor error (dynamic)
C1115-Internal power relay
C1220-yellow ABS light short
U3FFF-?????

mitchell on demand said to clear codes, if B1342 comes back, replace ABS module... i cleared the codes and B1342 came back.

modules are like $400. took mine off to get the part number off of it and what do you know. i need a specific module cause i have a 7700.

light will stay on until i can find a unit at a junk yard. not paying $400 for something you dont really need.

Be careful about what you buy at junk yards. I went through 2 ABS modules on my 04 F150 through a junkward and both of them were not compatible with my truck even though they say they were. I ended up having to buy the unit from Ford which was about 900 bucks. They do have to be flashed by the dealer. Have you tried unplugging the module to see if the codes disappear?

had to be flashed? the module should be a simple plug in if you get the correct module. there are many different modules for the f150. there is a module for the lightening, harley, 7700 and the regular f150. thats the reason you pay the extra $3 30 day insurance when you buy something like that from a junk yard so if it dont work you can take it back and get your money back lol.

module was plugged in, wiggled wires and plugged, unplugged the module. got nothing.

B1342 showed up multiple times.
