It's quite deceiving it seems that CAI's are pushed hard by places saying that they are a much better breathing unit for your vehicle... yet it seems the forums say otherwise....

The dynos in the real world say otherwise too. Unless you're driving around at 5000 rpm all the time, you're in the 2-3 hp gain range for a CAI. The throttle response fools a lot of people into thinking it's power gains.

I love the sound of a cai but I have been looking at the dwv/Gotts mod also, and k&n filters are kinda a pain to clean so I wanted a dry filter. So the sct 3015 has canned tunes as well as the ability to have custom tunes? I think I'm going to go with that. Like I said I'm new to the programmer scene. How much does a custom tune cost for an an sct and who/where can I get the custom tunes. Sorry for my ignorance about this topic

The 3015 comes with canned tunes but can hold custom tunes. 5star, VMP tuning, and Troyer performance all do SCT tuning. For the Gotts mod you do not need a custom tune, but a custom tune is better than the canned one even without mods. Costs for tunes are around $30-$60, and the device can vary. See if member Franchi on here can get you a deal on the programmer itself.
Good call on the dry filter as they filter better than oiled filters.

I've never used MPT, as they are pretty new to the game. If Franchi says they are good I would trust them. I like to see dyno a/f graphs and know their strategy for the transmission pressures before I recommend a tuner, but I'm OCD on that compared to most people.

Thanks again guys for the help. Ok so if mpt is new I'd like a tuner with experience, so if its between 5 star or troyer, who should I go with? Pm me if you don't want to start a debate as I don't want to either lol I don't beat on my truck at all, I'm just looking for a little more power for when I need it. I'm not looking for crazy hard shifts, just a little firmer than stock and an 87 economy tune and 87 performance tune if that helps...
