I have an 05 f150 and currently have a cobra cb with a 4 foot firestick. The head unit is currently just sitting between the drivers seat and the center console. I was wondering how much trouble it would be to try and mount the unit where the ash tray currently is?

 

Don't know what size yours is, I cut into my dash and put it here.

 

That looks really good. I would love to do that but i believe my unit is to wide to mount like that. do you have any experience removing the ashtray?

 

It's not hard at all to mount it where the ashtray is. Pop off the center bezel and the ashtray is held on with 2 screws.

 

any ideas of what the best way to secure the radio in place in the dash would be?

 

I would make a custom bracket that goes from the CB mounting on the sides up to the 2 screws that mount the ashtray.

Put mine where the cupholders/ash tray pop out was. The mount is attached to the little storage pocket right below it.
