Default Custom Rear Bumper

Going to start working on the rear bumper soon. Only when its to cold to work on the front bumper on the truck. This is some pictures of it at different angles using Sketchup. I haven't worked out the brackets to mount it to the truck yet. Only because I haven't looked at how the current bumper is bolted on. Adding brackets later won't effect how the outer shell is designed. Will be made with a mix of 1/4 and 3/16 A36 steel.

Well it was to cold this last weekend to weld outside on the front bumper. So I started working on the parts for the rear. Here's how the corner step pockets turned out.

My personal preference, but I really do not like those "lazy corner steps". Functional? Yes, and kudos for designing and fabricating your own bumper. I am sourcing materials for my own front bumper right now too. Aesthetically pleasing? No, they ruin the body lines. Every time I see a Chevy with those, I imagine Chip Foose smoothing those over in an episode of Overhaulin.

I planning on cutting more pieces for the bumper Thursday night and weld Friday night. The only problem was the saw blade had other plans. Snapped on the third cut and didn't want to go out that night to get a replacement. So Friday after work picked up a new Bi-metal blade and good to go. Finished all the cut and I guess I'll weld tonight. Below are pictures of the cuts held together with welding magnets.

Had the garage nice and toasty Friday night since it was only 3 outside.
