Default Cruise Control Issue

So I always set my cruise control when driving, since mostly highway. Lately is been turning its self off. At first I'd just turn it back on. But now when I go to turn it back on it won't come on. At first I thought it was a fuse, but after turning truck off and then back on, cruise control worked again. But eventually is repeats the process of not working again. Any one know what's going on or have any information to share?

What is the process that you're using to activate the cruise control?

Hit "on" then "set", I use cruise control all the time. But last week or two it's been acting up.

I think the switch is starting to go. If it's a fuse then it wouldn't work at all. I haven't heard much about our cruise control systems failing though. That could be a safety issue in the long run.

Possibly the shift interlock solenoid. Do you have a center counsel shifter? Sounds exactly like mine was doing.

Not a problem, I spent months searching the forums trying to find my answer so I'll try to make it as painless as possible for you. A few things other members had me try we're the brake switch, make sure your brake lights are working right, if they are then I'd rule that out, also some asked if I had added led taillights, I guess if they do not have a resistor it can cause problems. Neither one of those worked for me, but the main clue I had that it was the solenoid was that I did not need to apply the brake to shift on my center counsel shifter. The solenoid has a white tab that engages and disengages when you shift telling the truck if its in park or drive. With this not working properly, the cruise will not work because it can't read I it's in gear or not. It's a simple fix even for those who are not mechanically inclined. I ordered my solenoid from Tasca parts, it cost a little over $100 and had it on my door step a couple days later. The part is located under the shifter in the counsel. You will have to take off the trim piece over the shifter, remove the side panel on the drivers side, and for ease I took the shifter out, but I did not undo the shift cable, no need too. I just took it out to run the wires under the shifter, made it a lot easier. From here it's just plug and play for the most part, the solenoid includes the light bulb for the shifter position and two plugs! Took me about 20 minutes top. I did it a month ago and my cruise works like new! Good luck!

read the codes...my cruise threw a code without the cel light on...mine was doing the same thing...my edge cleared the code...and still don't work right some times...when it goes off by itself...I found if you hit off then set again it works fine.

Thank you for the information. My brake lights work. I do have LEDs. Though I believe my tail lights came with built in resistor cause I don't have hyper flash. I know this cause I did after I changed my head light blinker to led, I did buy the resistor to fix it though. So no hyper flashing. I will look into changing the solenoid though will be a few weeks since I'm going to FL in a week. Ill update when I do the install.

Ya some times it will work again. But lately it won't even turn back on. Nothing been showing up but I haven't looked on the edge if that's the case. Ill go out and check the log? (Haven't messed around with edge like that)
