Default cruise control

Have an 2004 F150, 63K miles, and the cruise control will engage but won't hold...any suggestions?

Is your rear 3rd brake light burned out? Or did you swap it to an LED?

I had this issue and it was because my tailgate bar light LEDs were burnt out. So if you don't have one, I could agree with last post of any other of your lights out.

If I remember right on this body style truck the cruise control kill switch is controlled by the third brake light. So people who have burnt out lights or LEDs not drawing enough power had trouble with their cruise control.

It was something like that.

I know this thread is a couple months old, but having a cruise control problem. Just bought the truck at auction so not sure when the CC worked last. What caught my attention in this post was the tailgate LED bar. The truck has one and as far as I can tell it's not working. How does that light bar relate to the CC. What should I be looking for? A blown fuse maybe? Are those light bars typically tied in with the brakes or tail lights? Any info would be much appreciated.

Well nevermind. After I posted I went out and looked at the light bar. Saw there was an inline fuse however it didn't look blown. I decided to just disconnect the lightbar (spliced into the tow plug) altogether. Still no luck on the CC. Guess I will have to have the dealer check it out. I'm out of ideas.

Don't clockspring issues effect the cruise control also?
