Default Cracked timing cover

I'm new to the forum and I did do a search for this issue before writing a new topic but I only found one.

I bought my truck a 2004 f150 super crew lariat and I just brought it in for it's first oil change and my mechanic noticed that I was leaking oil. So after he cleaned it off and ran the truck he checked again and could see I have. Crack in the timing cover. Has anyone had this happen? I can't imagine how it did in the first place but how long did it take to fix? And any other information I should know or parts I should buy would be greatly appreciated.

Replace your timing chains, guides, tensioners, and possibly your cam phasers. Also check your lifters and lash adjusters. Your timing chain might have been slapping the inside for so long it wore a leak in the cover.

That's kind of what I'm afraid of. How much are the phasers and are they a dealer only part? Also is 12hours an accurat amount of time to replace this?

12 hours if you have some sort of mechanical experience. As far as the phasers, I would only go with motorcraft. Stay away from Dorman. I haven't replaced my phasers, just my timing set. Took me about 10 hours just for the timing set. Next time I dig in I'll do my phasers, lifters, and lash adjusters. Bout 600 for the phasers and about 200-250 for the timing set.
