Default Cost of engine replacement

Looking to get an idea of what people have paid to remove and install a new engine. I have friend that can do it but a DIY will not be honored for the engine warranty. Any ideas on what good condition 2007 FX4 Extended cab 5.4 would go for without an engine. Just trying to see what my options are. Thanks

Body condition? Mileage? Engine warranty? Do you mean if your friend installs a crate engine there will be no warranty? Have you tried to find a replacement in a low mile junkyard wreck? If the truck has oversized tires and lifted, it would be worth more to someone trying to build an off road truck. If it is pretty much stock, you might find someone that is wanting a project truck. Info and pictures help a lot.

Overall body condition is really good. 1 small crease by extended cab door. Truck has leveling kit, relatively new tires. Interior is in good shape . 147,000 on the mileage. Have not been able to find a decent used engine at this point. Don't have an recent pictures of the truck if I have any at all. LOL. According to what I read on the Powertrain warranty, DIY installs are not covered by the warranty.

I bought a FoMoCo reman and had the dealership install it, along with new COPS. All in was $6498.00. It came with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.

I bought a reman from Ford last year and had a local mechanic install. I was in for about $5500.

Dealership installed mine as well. I had them swap in a Melling HV oil pump and some stainless long tube headers which required some additional exhaust work and labor.

Ended up about $8,800.00 total

The low cost engine replacement: Buy an engine from a salvage yard at $1,500 to $2,500
Best place to find a salvage yard and which ones have the part you need: www.car-part.com

Installation cost: I found a guy who works full time doing mechanical work in his garage who would install an engine for $1,000
Independent mechanic shop, maybe $1,500

2006 F150 in good/average condition with a bad motor, Sell on craigslist: $2,500 to $3,500.

YMMV

Just curious if anyone would consider a Jasper reman. I put one in an 04 Sport track. About $5800.00 in 2017.

If you're willing to spend upwards of $5000 on another engine why not rebuild yours?
