Default Corrosion

Hey guys, im new to the forum and this is my first post. So after 8 years in a Ranger i stepped up to an 08' F-150. Great truck and i love driving it. Anyhow i noticed in the engine compartment there is alot of corrosion. The valve covers have alot of the white frosty residue, alot of the bolt heads have rust, exhaust manifolds have rust flaking off of them like youd see on a 75 Chevy that was a salt truck, etc. The truck only has 28k miles so to me this seems like an extreme. Anybody else notice this on their trucks? Any suggestions on what to do to keep it from getting worse? Thanks guys!

Nothing like that on either my 07 or 97. Did you buy it new or used? If used, did you get a carfax on it? Any chance it could be a flood damaged unit? If not then is there some environmental issues around where you live? Sure seems strange to me.

Just thoughts.

there was a post I saw on one of the f150 boards where a guy made splash shields out of an old truck inner tube and fitted them to the area around the upper control arm to keep water from getting into the engine bay. Ford dropped the ball when it came to protecting the engine, it is subject to any and all elements the front tires will throw it's way

My truck looks like it was sunk in the Atlantic after 2 winters plowing and 14K miles on it.

Wait till your exhaust manifold bolts rot off or the manifolds crack.

my 06 with 50K is suprisingly clean under the hood - corrosion wise anyway - and it's a workhorse, not a show pony.... it came from michigan and I'm in the chicago area. and they don't spare the salt up here in winter.

Bought the truck used a few weeks ago. Got a lil anxious and forgot to get a carfax report. Dealership i got the truck from had sold it new and it was traded back in to the, the guy has a long history of this. Making splash shields is a good idea, ill have to look into that. I suspected that it was because there is such a gaping hole in the inner fender area and the corrosion is from lack of tlc from previous owner. One thing is for sure, makes me want to buy the extended warranty!

My 2007 has the same corrosion from Upstate NY winters and the truck gets washed regularly. My 2000 F150 had inner fender splash guards and no corrosion, time to make something.
