Conv. to Syn. Transmission fluid process
Howdy all, I have done some searching and can't find a thread that describes the process of changing to synthetic for the transmission fluid. Would it be as simple as, just replacing the current with synthetic at one of the fluid change peeps, or do I need to run some kind of additive a while before changing? Should I replace the filter with the change to synthetic even though "Ford" doesn't recommend it for conventional changes? Do I need to change to synthetic and then do it again after 500 miles to remove varnish and flush all the conventional out?
If there is a thread out there that I missed, by all means point it out to me.
Any thoughts appreciated!!

Seems like there would be more to it than just swapping it out. I've heard of guys running additives for a week or so and then doing it or changing it twice and such. I'm just not sure what is "necessary" and what is done just because they wanted to and didn't really need to.
That is not necessary. Anyone who tries to sell you that is taking your money. If you fill with the same viscosity fluid, there won't be a problem. Beware of tranny flush services with the vacuum type. Can cause more harm than good. They often pull contaminants back into harms way. Just drop and drain and refill.

step one, drop tranny pan and drain your tranny.
step two, change tranny filter
step three, clean magnet on tranny pan, it will have crap on it.
step four, fill it back up with a quality univeral synthetic ATF, I use wolf.
thats it
you are not going to change ALL of the fluid. but there is no issue mixing the two. after two or three drain and refils you will have changed out the majority of the traditional fluid. you do not have to drain and refill several time unless you want to.
DO NOT HAVE ANYBODY FLUSH YOUR TRANSISSION THROUGH THE COOLER LINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DRAIN AND REFILL ONLY!!
I have seen first hand the disasters of tranny flushes using a machine. DO NOT DO IT!
oh, and your truck more than likley has a reusable gasket. so dont waste your money on a new one unless it is already leaking, you can verify this by reading the bottom of the tranny pan, it will say equiped with reusable gasket right on the bottom of the pan.
