Default Cold air intake thoughts?

I have a 2005 Lariat 4x4 and am getting about 13 mpg in town and 16 on the highway at best. I was considering getting a k&n cold air intake to help with mileage and possibly with performance. I would appreciate if i could get your thoughts on the mod and wether it is worth the money.

I got 1 MPG out of my CAI with seemingly more HP? The sound itself is worth the mod IMO!

For performance w/ a custom tune-dual exhaust, yes. For MPG gains, nope.

I as well achieve 1-1.5 mpg better with my K&N FIPK, but I never expect it tank to tank. General rule is MORE POWER = LESS MPG. If you get better mpg with a CAI it will usually be due to the mix of driving city/hwy as well as driving habits. I say get it. It is a good place to start, and they sound good too. Good luck!

Yes you will get better mileage. Dont expect a huge jump but a gain is better than nothing right? Combine with an exhaust system and a tune and you might see 1 mpg in thw city and 1-3 on highway. I have a 4.6 with a k&n cai, straight piped exhaust and a 93 performance tune from PHP. I just averaged 21-22 mpg on a trip from northern ohio to central tennessee. And that was with a 4 people inside and 400 lbs in the bed with a hard tonneau cover. My truck is also 2wd not 4x4. But i am plenty pleased withthat kinda mileage.
I almost got there on one tank of gas. Lol 502 miles. Needed 532

Good writeup (although it's been said many, many, many times here before). Had the search been used on "CAI", it would have resulted in about 100 posts on cold air intakes.

The biggest problem in installing the "big three" upgrades (CAI, exhaust, and tunner) is that gas mileage usually suffers, because the right foot enjoys the new found performance!

My tank is only 26.... but it still hurts. Lol.
And yes you will wanna push the gas pedal harder. Hehehe try not to.
And yes use the search function. I was annoyed at first when they told me that but being on here for awhile now i can see why. There is a billion posts on the big 3.
