Default Cold air intake??

Hey guys, fairly new to the site. I have a 2005 Ford F150 FX4 Super Crew.. It is an awesome truck. I have recently had to problem with the transmission. The local Ford dealership said it was a computer timing problem. It lead to a 650$ fix. Took them 5 days to fix it. She came out as good as new and i am looking to buy myself a cold air intake. I will one day buy myself a Edge Programmer Chip. BUT, for now i want a CAI. Help me out on what it does, what benefit it gives the truck and what sound it may give. Thanks guys, please help me out.

What it does? It lightens your wallet by about $300, causes you to run lean and may get you 5hp on a good day

Your best bet is to save your money and buy the programmer and cai at the same time. It WILL cause your truck to run lean and you will need a custom tune to fix that. Get a gryphon from power hungry performance and figure out what cai you want first. When you order your gryphon get a custom tune that is calibrated for whichever cai you want. Personally I like the volant with the ram air scoop addition. I have the same truck as you and thats what I'm running

Buy the tuner first! There about the same money
And you will be 10000000000x happier with tuner

The only reason to instal is 1 sounds good if you like it. 2. They use a vortec to change the air density charge ( might improve performance at extreme end ) 3. you have an extreme dusty condition like gravel roads. Get the best ( airaid ) for the job of filtering micron dust particles. Believe it, filtering out particles in the air, no matter how small is the most important, while not hurting performance.

Tunner off ebay and gotts mod...plus some gas money! Haha for real listen to these guys. Edge is by far the easyest upgrade and you will love it. Makes it almost like a different truck! (For the better of course)

gotts is a good choice for the intake mod. If you want to go with an aftermarket CAI go with a closed intake box like the volant. For programmer you can buy a gryphon from Power hungry performance (an edge that is converted to hold custom tunes) and order custom tunes when you need them because if you want to go the custom tune route eventually then you will have to send PHP your edge programmer for them to convert it. You can also get an edge cs or cts and then you will not have to send it in to PHP for them to send you custom tunes but those cost more. definitely get the programmer first though especially if you are not going to get one right after the other.

Agree with the airaid. I have that with a edge and a straight pipe. I can feel the power difference. Those woke my truck up.

Gotts mod. I have k&n and wish I would have saved my money for a different mod sooner. It does sound good at wot, but that's about it. I have diablosport programmer which has a k&n intake tune, but still would have rather done the gotts.

def get the edge first.... I didn't and I have a brand new AFE Stage 2 SI just sitting in my office until my custom tunes get here. Bill (I think) at PHP said I should wait on the custom tunes before installing the intake.
