Default Coil Pack

06 screw with 101K (5.4) and I just had my 3rd coil pack changed.
Is this considered normal for these models?
I hear the 97-03 were bad too.
What causes their failure?

If you are replacing a different one each time (different coil pack failure), folks here have recommended that they all be replaced at the same time.

Also, what brand coil pack are you using? If you are buying the cheaper ones, you get what you pay for.

Check engine light, misfiring, vibration. Took to mechanic and 2 were bad. went ahead and had the plugs changed at that time 70K miles. Same symptoms this time 101K miles. Had one bad. He changed COP and the plug.
Is it common in just Fords as I hear? Design flaw? Never hear people talk of COP issues on Chevys, dodge, etc
Not buying a Chevy! Just curious as to why

I have NEVER had a COP go bad. Some trucks I have had over 200K on them, V10 Excursion, Superduty and F150. All you have to do is put on a new boot and spring onto the COP and you are good. So you have never heard the Dodge and Chevy guys complain about COPS...........wonder why???? LOL

Some folks have bought the cheaper COP's when they've replaced them. Here's yet another good example of "you get what you pay for".

Summer, where did you get your new boots and springs? Also what brand? From what I've seen you can't get new oem boots and springs without buying new cops.

You can get Motorcraft anywhere, like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-pcs-Motorcraft-WR6131-Ignition-Coil-Boots-SPP87-for-Ignition-Coil-DG511-FD508-/301134702239?hash=item461d06e69f&vxp=mtr
But I have always went with BWD from Oreilley Auto. I also file the copper contact in the nipple of the COP before installing new springs onto them.
