Default Coil Boots

2007 King Ranch 4x4, 5.4L, 205,000 miles....

Question about coil boots...Do you change them every time you change your plugs. If so, do you only use Motorcraft boots? I ask because the Motorcraft boots do not come with replacement springs as other boots do. Do you re-use the springs or buy them elsewhere if you use Motorcraft?

I have the Motorcraft plugs, but wasn't sure on the boots. Thanks for your help and opinions!

I used denso boots and they came with springs and a tube of grease. I would recommend them. Just make sure you order the correct ones black or brown depending on where yours is on the year cutoff.

absolutely not! They are not a wear item. You replace the boots and springs only, unless the coil fails.

you’re wasting money buying new coils. If one or more is bad, I would use Motorcraft.

- i would replace boots and springs at every plug change and/or anytime boot is contaminated with oil or coolant

- i use small file to clean tan of coil, so prefer to just put on fresh spring after doing so (and have a good snug fit

- IMO brand of boots/springs is not important, i’ve also compare regular vs “heavy duty” boots and don’t think there is a difference. as already mentioned, just make sure you get correct boot model for your application.

My truck is a 2006 f150 with 220k and I’m the original owner. I probably changed the plugs, boots, springs about 3 times.

all the coils are original except for one that failed. Just FYI. The truck runs great.

A/C Delco boots and springs are OEM match. Rockauto has them.
