Cluster Swap Question
New here and have a question (May have been covered but can’t find my answers in other searched threads). I have a 2006 XLT 5.4 4wd with the standard speedo/tach/ smaller gauges on the sides with all the other warning lights. I acquired a gauge cluster from a 2004 Lariat (column shift) 4wd, 5.4 truck and want to swap it. I know my local dealership has the capabilities to program my mileage and set a cluster up to your truck when doing a swap, but my question is more detailed. The options on my LCD screen are run by the single push button “stick” in the cluster it self, the lariat one has the more optioned 3 button switch integrated into the dash (which I took that switch out of the truck too and the pigtail going to it). Would I be able to have this cluster programmed for my truck and swap it over so it would function properly? It’s fine if the cluster can be programmed and I wouldn’t be able to scroll thru the “options” on the display. Just as long as correct mileage and outside temp are displayed, I’m ok. I don’t use my trip anyways or other options. Thanks in advance for any advice or help someone can give!!

I have heard of people not having good luck going from a XLT cluster to a Lariat cluster. I do know the FX2/FX4 cluster will swap without issue except the mileage reprogram. As I swapped out my XLT cluster for a FX4 cluster.

Appreciate the info man, I think I'll just sell the Lariat Cluster and get my hands on an FX4 one.

If the lariat had climate control (it likely did) and your truck has manual ac, your ac will no longer function. Get a cluster from an FX4 or the like that had manual ac. Don’t get a cluster from an 07 or 08. Those have TPMS and your 06 does not.
