Default choosing muffler, need help!

I will be getting 3" single stainless exhaust ran on my truck (04 f-150 5.4 3v V8) with it exiting in roughly the factory position. I dont know what to run for a muffler though. I do NOT like flowmaster, sorry. I kinda like magnaflow, but they just create a low grumble and not much bark, unless you waste $$ on a tiny race muffler. I really want an aggressive "rasp" sound. Borla XR-1's sound great, but its rare to find them on a F-150. Any suggestions or sound clips will be helpful! And please only input from guys who have exhaust experience with the same engine. Maybe not even run a muffler? I would prefer a nice bark too

I too would like to know, as I'm in the same boat as you with the whole wanting more bark than low rumble sound. Everyone has classic flowmaster sound around here and its all the same sounding to me. I've been considering the flowmaster single chamber 10 series, or a similar race muffler. Whatever will net a nice barky sound all throughout the RPM range.

i know u said u dont like flowmaster but i would recomend the series 40 i have it on my truck and couldnt be happier with it. i did an open exhaust "no muffler" first, and the sound was muddy and didnt really have a good tone. u will never get a nasty bad *** sound out of this motor unless u do some upgrades it is too low compression and too much factory restriction. we did a set up on a 02 5.4 2v with cams, programer, intake, headers, no cats,3",Xpipe, and with and without dual magnaflows. and with no mufflers it sounded bad *** and a lil nasty. but with the magnaflows it was too quiet.

i stopped at the exhaust shop and was told the rasp will be hard to do. he says the best bet for it would just be straight pipes or a small glasspack. i asked about race mufflers, but being that most are 70-200+ dollars, he says they are a waste since they dont really change the tone much from straight exhaust.

i was quoted $400 for a 3" 309 SS mandrel bend system with a 14" magnaflow muffler (no tip). it would be another 50-120 for a SS tip. Good deal or no? The guy does excellent work

anyone have experience with dynomax bullets?
