On diesels the more fuel you get the more power you gain so you can get tons of power over stock just by getting a chip to throw more fuel in the cylinders. Gas motors don't work that way so you max out a whole lot faster. Stacking chips and tuners wont do you much good on a gas motor unless your looking for just tire size adj, and small things like that that a chip wouldn't get you.
Yeah i just got out of an 01 cummins that we used to race on and off and finally just got tired of fixing it and what not so i figured i would go onto breaking something else so i got my ford back lol. Well thats some good advice man i appreciate it cause i would've been throwing on chips and programmers and looking to break the tires loose !!! How do these motors and trannys react to these programmers and chips ??[/quote]

The trans reacts far better than you would think, I don't know about the cummins and their problems but the powerstrokes tend to have weak transmissions especially after you put a chip on them. Most chips for the diesels tune the trans as well but the majority of the programmers don't or at least not effectively ( edge, bullydog, hypertech...) This pushed me away from programers when I first got my f150 but I have since read 1000 articles since then and its not the same as the diesels, I just bought the Diablo Predator and couldn't be happier, and if you want the "max" performance out of your truck you will need to get it dyno tuned which can be loaded onto some tuners for instance the Diablo. There is a shop locally by me (Livernois Motorsports) that specializes in dyno tunes and Diablo products it runs about $800 for a fully custom tune.

The 47RE in the cummins was pretty weak as well just cause it was an auto transmission. I was hoping that you would say that these trannys react well to chips and programmers cause im probably gonna put mine through a little hell !!! I just cant believe that a custom tune is $800 !!!! Thats insane !!! But it is custom matched to your truck and makes a huge difference in throttle response, shifts, and such correct ?? Im just not sure who here around Austin can custom tune like that....any ideas ??

well I haven't put my trans to the test yet so I cant say for sure. But yes $800 is very pricey for tune but they are one of the best, for the 5.4 they actually keep the truck overnight for the tune, its done both on the dyno and on the street for the engine and trans. I am not looking to get that extreme of a tune till maybe later down the road when I have more than just an intake and exhaust. If you go to the diablosport website http://www.diablosport.com/ you can locate a dealer near you and they should all be able to in some way shape or form do a custom tune for you if you wanted to go that route. But hey theres more options out there than just diablosport

Oh ok well that's makes a little bit more sense. Yeah I'm leaning towards either Diablo, Edge, or SCT. Screw superchips and hypercrap I've heard nothing but bad on them.

From everything I have read heard and talked to specialists about I would say sct or diablo just for the fact you can add your own tunes to it. The edge is the stock tunes only
