Default Cheaper to downsize to 17's?

Hey guys I'm pretty new to this forum. I have a 04 F150 Lariat Super Crew. It has factory 18" wheels on it with I believe 265/70/18 Hercules Terra Trac At's. I bought the truck last Dec and its been a great truck except for the tires. These things are terrible. I cant keep air in them or balanced for that matter. Ive been checking around for a set of tires and everywhere I go I keep hearing that 18's are such an odd size that it would be cheaper to go with a 17 or level the truck and put on a set of 20's. Im a big fan of the hoss xd wheels but would a 17 look to small or could you balance it out with a set of 33's? Anybody else running factory 18's ran into this problem? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also what tires do you guys recommend? Ive ran Toyo Ats before on other trucks and liked the ride but im looking for more of an aggressive look but still a good ride. Thanks-Ryan-

I've never heard of 18's being an odd size... 18" wheels are cheaper to put rubber on then 20's that's for sure.

You can find tires for 18's...Look on tire rack/discount tire.

I just bought some toyo open country tires so they do exist!

I'd check around more on where to buy tires. 18's are a NORMAL size and shouldnt be a ton more money. Try lookin at prices for 19 in tires, now THOSE are expensive.

I have 305/70/17 I don't think they look small. Whatever you decide Craigslist is a great place to pick up a set if rims, unless your set on a specific kind.

Thanks scobar. Ive checked that website out before. I think my problem is I got bad info from the mechanic at a local walmart. They were running a special on Goodyear wranglers and he told me that 18 was odd. So I called a couple more places and they could order the tires I wanted( Nitto Trail Grappler) but Id have to pay the shipping because that size was something they never carried. I believe the local Tire Barn quoted nearly 1500 by the time it was all said and done.
