Default Changing tire size

So I would like to change the tire size on my 2007 STX and the tire place is saying that I can't as it will effect the sensors in the tires and cause problems with the computer. What's the deal with that

if your referring to the tpms sensor than your wrong, it wont have any effect on that, as far as the wheel speed sensor than yes it will effect it slightly depending on how big you go, you can still do it though

If u get a programmer, if u don't have one yet, u can calibrate ur comp to adjust the speed sensor for a larger tire size. Not sure if they all do it, but I know some of them do.

What does the speed sensor do? If I were to change it anyway what would be the consequences ?

Speed sensor does exactly what the name implies, senses the speed of ur vehicle. It's calibrated to the factory size tires that are offered on the truck. If u go bigger tire the speedometer will show a different speed than what u are actually doing. Where ever u go for bigger tires, ask them and see if they can adjust the speed sensor. Not sure if they will do it, but it wouldn't hurt to ask

Usually the speed sensor is uses for your ABS system. The back side of the brake rotor has a bunch of square teeth (for lack of better words) on it. The sensor tells your ABS how fast the wheel is turning, and when you stomp on the brakes, the speed a which to modulate the on/ off cycle of brake lock. This allows you to have steering control during hard braking, instead of skidding and no steering. There is no adjustment on this sensor.
Go to any size tire you want, your ABS will work fine. I have 315/70/17's (35's) on mine and have had no issues for the past 6 years.

Get a different tire place. Your TPMS sensors have no idea what size tire they are in. And you can drive the truck with your revs per mile being off, it won't hurt your computer. However, your speedometer will be off. I would get a programmer like the Edge, at the least, to correct your speed. IMO, everyone should have a programmer anyway. I, personally, would go with the SCT X3 or Gryphon w/ custom tunes.
