Get it read even if there isn't a light. There could be pending codes.

They'd cause a misfire, and a ton of misfires would kill the O2 sensors and cats eventually

Yep, and a misfire won't always trigger a CEL.

im thinking out loud here.. if the PO just changed the plugs at 132k miles .. then maybe it was not running very well for several thousand miles and you now have a clog or fouled out sensor ... take it out and run it up to operating temp then look under at the cats ... glowing red or the smell of rotten eggs you have a cat problem..

well, I got under the truck yesterday and the cats don't look like they've had any discoloration to them, also o2 sensors look like they are not original, the look fairly new... I did notice the an exhaust stud is broke for the passengers side manifold... could that be what is causing the light?

I got lucky with having the passenger side exhaust manifold changed and all the studs for around $550, a lot of others have paid over a thousand though. Good luck.

Personally I wouldn't think that's a relief. If you're not doing the work yourself it might be just as expensive as getting cats replaced..
