Default Catalytic converter removal.

Hey guys. Mechanic told me my cats are gummed up and need to be replaced. I have zero interest in spending thousands on stupid cats and wondering if it is detrimental to remove the guts of the cat and put it all back together. I plan to keep my magnaflow muff on there

Step one would be to find out what the real problem is. The cats are a symptom, not the cause.

Step two would be to either replace the cats with a less expensive aftermarket cat, or break federal and possibly state laws and remove the cats.

If you just remove the cats, whatever problem is making the engine foul them will still be present.

I took mine off and added the simmulators. Sandkiller is right, smells like ***, and if you have an aftermarket muffler(s), VERY loud. I love the sound.

I have an 06 as,well. I got codes read and one bad o2 sensor and various misfires. That vacuum leak is interesting. I get backfires so that makes sense

First, fix the misfires.

After fixing the misfires, I'd bet the O2 sensor failure miraculously disappears.

If the misfires had been fixed before it started throwing other codes, your cats would probably still be fine.

Yea i guess the mechanics at the dealer said its a common problem vacume leak on a piece of plastic that connects to the booster. I don't know if that is the only place it was leaking. Hopefully a tech can chime in. And miss fire you mean a slight sputter at ide once a while and while slowly speeding up? His started as a miss fire but he kept driving. Cost him injectors ouch! But cats were covered since under 75,000 miles that new emissions law dealer has to replace failed cats for free if inder 75000 miles

I mean misfire as in gear shift up a hill goes bang! The guy who read my codes said its probably a bad coil in number 7. So does running without cats do anything bad. Do I need a simulator?
