Default Cap for bed

I have an '05 Lariat with a leather tourneau cover. I want to get a cap to use for transporting camping gear this summer (I am a female and we take a lot of stuff camping)... my question is how easy or difficult is it to put on a cap? Do I need to dismantle the whole tourneau frame to put on a cap or can I just remove the leather part? I have heard that I may be able to get a c-clamp cap but I am not sure if this is accurate. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I would say you'll probably need to remove the tonneau frame as the cap will need to mount directly to the bed rail. You can definitely get c-clamps (made for this). As far as removing the cap, it depends on how heavy it is, definitely plan on at least two people, maybe more, unless you have a garage that you can rig up a pulley system to lift it up an pull out from under it when not in use.

You may have to remove the tonneau cover and frame seasonally to use a cap.

I have a fiberglass cap on my truck. They are heavier than they look. Myself and a buddy put mine on and it is pretty heavy. It is best with probably 4 people to take it off. No straining that way.
I would venture to say that the bed cover would have to come off. My cap sits on the bed rails and the inside is flush with them. Mine has 4 c clamps that hold it down. I was never much of a cap person but it is nice with 2 kids, I can throw their stuff back there for trips and all that and it stays nice and dry.

One other thing to add. I used a 4 way trailer plug on my brake wires running to the third brake light. That way I can unhook it when I take the cap off and with it on, it is a nice weather tight connection.

I just bought a cap for my 05 Lariat super cab.

Two of us can handle it but it sucks and you will eventually scratch something, 4 makes it much nicer.

I bought mine used and it is held on with c-clamps. My old truck had nice camper shell clamps and I will get them, just haven't yet.

I would plan to get it and leave it on, why wouldn't you?

I bought mine used on craigslist and had it painted. I have a burgundy truck so I didn't hold out for one that would match since I didn't think I would find one. I was able to get a nice one for $500 but most were around $750. If I had to pay $750 for a used one I would have just bought new (1300 for a base model leer painted to match).

I wired mine into the tail lights with quick connectors so I can remove it if needed.

$20 in supplies from home depot and I can remove and put on by myself. I had to remove my soft cover completely though because as others said, the clamps have to go under the bed rails.
