Default Can someone identify this?

I have a 2006 F-150 with the 5.4. Working on timing chain tensioners and wondered what these are. I appreciate any help.

I looked them up before when I was doing the same job on my truck. If I remember right, they're just capacitors and they're only bolted there to get power off the block. They have a part number molded into their side. Look that up.

I've done some more digging and the best I could find was "ignition transformer capacitor" used to filter out engine noise on your radio.

It's an electronic noise suppression capacitor.

Its job is to dissipate electronic noise in the ignition system. The reason this is important is because of the type of signal that the cam sensors give out. without it, you get erratic readings from them and it confuses the ECM. They are pretty important.

I successfully changed my timing chains, guides, and tensioners. Timing chain slap is gone but now I have a new ticking noise. This noise is not present until the engine warms all the way up. I notice it at idle and at all RPMs. I pulled the oil fill cap off and the noise gets louder. Something under the passenger side valve cover.

I'm guessing its my VCT solenoid but wanted a second opinion. My old tensioners had blown their seals and the VCT is probably getting more oil now that I fixed those tensioners.

Anyone have a different opinion?

Unplug the VCT solenoid and see if it goes away.

Unplugging them made no difference.
