have never heard of people having trouble that had a '07 or later truck with cam and vcts. more than likely just a fluke with your specific engine. maybe due to lack of maintenance(oil changes). maybe someone with a newer truck that has had similar issues will chime in.

How many miles are on the truck? From what I understand if the oil pressure is not maintained to Fords Specs it will/could damage them. Also oil weight (5W20) is very important on these motors to maintain those Specs(oil pressure).

I brought I to ford they said it was can phasers and vct's so I paid $2400 to get them replaced now they say the whole engine needs to be replaced cause the camshaft is scored like how does that happen all of a sudden?

On November 7, I bought an 08 FX4 with 72k. After driving it home, I pulled in my driveway, which is on an incline, and the motor started knocking. Everytime the motor was idling on an incline or decline it did this, but ran fine with no noise any other time. So, I took it back to the dealer and they eventually decided to replace both heads, oil pump and cam phasers. I still don't have it back. They said that the right head was back ordered and I finally got shipping conformation that it will be in tomorrow. The dealership has agreed to put a spray-in bedliner for me at no charge. I purchased the ESP, so that covered the repair. Maybe you could get the dealer to pay for the repair since you just purchased it. Good Luck!

I heard that Comp Cams has cam phasers, but that is the only aftermarket ones I have heard of.

They are cam phaser lockouts. It disables the whol cam phaser system. you need to get a custom tune after it's been done.

I wonder how many people have the true phaser tick, and how many have a similar sounding tick, but it's not pahsers? I have a tick in my 04' 5.4L, but it's nothing compared to the videos I have seen, mine is certainly not as loud as those. However, mine is annoying and only comes from inside the fender area or while I'm near a building. It more or less sounds like a very quiet diesel, and temp has absolutely no effect, and it happens 100% of the time it's running. I have tried just about everything to quiet it down with no success, short of replacing them (not really an option) I don't think there really is a solution other than a newer model year.
