Which weighs more, a pound of nitrogen or a pound of helium?
They both weigh a pound

You may be thinking of Thermostatic Expansion but the Mass never changes unless of course, there is a leak to Atmosphere.
a pound isnt mass bud just to let you know

Just to let you know, Weight = Mass x Gravity.
Physics 101

I used to teach these and other things at a College.

i know so a lb isnt a mass its a force, you have to multiply the slugs (mass) times the force of gravity (32.2) and you get pounds, im a engineering student i know this pretty well

I'm neither a physics nor an engineering student.....but I'd know enough to take the truck to an AC shop for a FREE checkup and analysis.

And I did stay at a Holiday Inn at one time.

OK I put a thermometer in my truck's vent this morning it was in the 80-83 degree range. I put the a/c on max and the fan on 4 I got a reading of about 50 degrees or so.

is this where it should be or should I take it in to be looked at?
I dont want to take it into the dealer and have them tell me it is normal and look like a fool when I tell them I think it isnt right.

Without gauges it would be hard to tell what exactly is going on but that sounds a bit warm, it could be colder. I'm guessing about a 1/2 lb or less low on refrigerant.

For an evac and recharge most shops charge less than $100. That should at least get you the correct amount of R134a in your system and allow for maximum cooling efficiency.
Although you're up near DC so it could be more. I lived up there for 33 years before getting out.

ive heard that your system shouldnt loose any R134a unless it has a leak somewhere, is this true or can over time can you loose a little bit, they never went over that in engineering class haha
