Default Brake Problem

I own a 2007 F-150 Lariat 4x4 with about 60,000 miles on it... For awhile now there has been a problem with my brakes. The back pads wear down faster then they should and the folks at Just Brakes told me it was a problem with my brake calipers and that they'd have to be rebuilt. With new rotors, pads, and rebuilding the calipers they wanted to charge close to $800.00. I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence, or if it could be a different problem?

This has also brought my gas milage down to about 13 mpg, and I drive mostly highway. RPMs also tend to stay around 2000, even when Im just lightly touching the gas.

Help?

How often are you changing your pads? It is very unlikely that you have to front calipers that are binding. sounds like that service shop you're going to is likely just trying to rip you off. factory pads on these trucks last betweeb 20K to 24K miles. If you want longer life you need to go with after market pads and rotors

Is your emergency brake hanging up?

Check this web site out on your parts....http://www.rockauto.com/

I checked and all the parts new, including new calipers would be around $400.
So if you are ok with paying $400 dollars for labor go ahead...
IMO that is a lot to ask for labor. I could do that job in less that 3 hours

I would definitely get more then one opinion and quote.

A couple of questions, what type of brakes are on the Lariat? My XLT has pads for brakes and shoes for parking. My second question is are both sides worn down equally? Having trouble with both calipers binding, need to look at something common to both sides, like the flexible line to the rear end, or something in master cylinder not allowing the return of fluid. Something other than binding calipers. Welcome to the forum.
