Default brake light switch issue

Yesterday I had change my brake light switch because of not having any lights, when I replaced it, I couldn't take the shift lever out of Park when I pressed the brake. I repositioned the brake light switch and was able to change gears. This morning everything was good going to work, got there, parked went to work, came out, stuck in Park again, moved the switch, got it to shift but brake lights stayed on. Each time I start my truck, I am having to move the brake switch to get it out of Park, then put it in Neutral, reach back to the brake switch move it again to turn off the brake lights from staying on then the brake lights work properly until the next time I park or shut the engine off. I'm thinking bad switch, anyone have any thoughts or advice on this, autozone cannot get me a replacement until tomorrow afternoon. Thanks in advance.

Either the replacement switch got messed up during the install, or it was bad "out of the box".

Power must go to the brake lights to unlock the solenoid to release the shift lever. A bad fuse does the thing (not your issue).
Use a circuit tester on the switch to see if it hanging up and not completing the circuit, this can be done on the work bench.

Turned out to be a faulty new switch as Bucko thought, put the new one in this morning when it showed up and so far, so good. Thanks for the responses.
