Default Brake Job

When I bought my car, I went ahead and did a lot of maintenance when I bought it... They threw in the plug change for free--- I covered the cost of a brake job front/back , transmission flush, oil change and a fuel filter; they tacked on 840.00 for this work - being it included the rotors and a needed trans flush, I figured that was about an avg price and went along w/ it. This was about 4 weeks ago... I was told that work did include new front and back rotors.

I took it in for an alignment today at another local shop; they informed me that the rotors most certainly were NOT replaced and are actually under the safety spec and need replaced. Since I had the brake job, I've heard what sounded like a slight rub from one of the brakes after the brakes are applied and released, going around 10-15mph you can hear a slight scrub from the pads, you only notice it every now and then when the window is down.

The job print-out that I have says 'BRAKES FRONT/REAR' and that's it. Clearly, IMO at least, at $840 that INCLUDES the rotors, right? I mean, either that or I was grossly overcharged. I'm still not 100% sure they did the plug change being they didn't put any dielectric grease on the COP boots; I'm tempted to pull a plug - but assuming they DIDN'T do the change, I don't wanna be screwed over if I break a 2-piece plug.

I would take the truck straight back, ask to talk to a manager, explain the situation and ask that they make it right and for taking up your time throwing in a couple of free oil changes, you will get more out of them by remaining calm, explaining the situation, and keeping demands reasonable.

my estimates will be somewhat about plug change $300, brake job labor $250 with pads, new front rotors $100, transmission flush $250, oil change $20, fuel filter $50....

$840 seems a fair price for all this...so, if they didnt perform any of those works, yeah, you should go and find what happen. +1 in JohnD comment.

The plug change was complimentary and done before I even signed for the truck; I paid for the brake job the same day I bought the truck. The missing ~$300 in parts/labor is surely the rotors.

I took it to the service manager today; and remained calm and even threw some jokes at him, after subtly mentioning I was disappointed they didn't follow the TSB for the plugs and grease the coils... I had to replace 1 COP already and add my own dielectric grease to the other 7; then I got the heart of my visit.

I brought out copies of the paperwork from the other shop with the exact wear measurements on the rotors and a copy of the vehicle inspection from the Ford dealership saying it needed Rotors.

I brought a copy of my bill for the brake job. I approached it as 'I'm sure it was just forgotten, given how much work was done to the truck'; and the service manager gladly agree'd to set up an appointment on Monday to bring the truck in for new rotors.

I was pleasantly surprised he didn't try to play semantics with the wording on the bill.

It does go a long way not to be a jerk. =)

oh btw; after pulling a COP right in front of him and showing him the dirt build-up on the plugs and how the TSB stated the tech should have air dusted the casing before removing the plug; a tech came up and pulled a plug- it came out without sqeauking it was brand new with the revised motorcraft part number. He fully understood why I thought they weren't changed. (and btw, adding the grease to all the COPs worked WONDERS, I also went ahead and cleaned the throttle body as well.)
