Default Box hooked to rearview mirror

I just noticed this today.it disconnects from mirror and has a button on it. It is connected to wire that goes into the headliner , anyone know what it is. Im thinking maybe something that reads the temp? Idk. Heres some pics.

It's also a light sensor for the headlights. I didn't know it had a button though. Wonder what happens when you push it?

I didn’t know it was the light sensor, I thought the light sensor was the thing on top of the driver’s side corner of the dash to the left of the defroster.

I think the button allows you to recalibrate the compass. There’s a process of driving in circles or figure-8s or something like that.

It's very well possible that I am wrong, but. After adding the tint strip on the windshield it seems the auto headlights come on more often still in good daylight. I'll go out here in few and test both, so I'm not spreading bad info.

Well considering the tint strip affected the auto headlights behavior, I would believe that you’re correct. I only assumed that the headlight sensor was on the dash, I haven’t looked into it.

Well I appreciate that. We all know that if there's a button on my truck I haven't pushed yet I'm gonna have to push it now.

Yes! Please do. So, I know not to push and end up driving in circles and figure 8s in a parking lot.

Well, I was wrong! The light sensor is on the dash. My wife asked me what the hell is was doing. I told her, and she reminded me that my whole windshield is tinted not just the upper strip.

So, I guess Ford felt the need for a big stupid box on the mirror to tell which direction I'm going. Go figure.
