Question bolt on's

Hey guy I just bought a 2005 f150 crewcab and I want to know some bolt on's that other people have donecto ther 5.4. And also what is the best solution to the clicking phasers, I want to do something about them before they become a problem. I've heard phaser lock outs are a good way to go but what your guys opinion?

I run 5 30 oil. That made them a little quieter. The best thing you can do is get a tuner. Definitely worth the money, it will feel like a completely different truck.

I got a Poweraid throttle body spacer and K&N air filter, the spacer got me +2 mpg in the city and +4 mpg on the highway. Makes a whistle sound too so you can convince your friends its a diesel if they know nothing about trucks.

Longtubes, custom tune, and gears make the biggest diffrence besides forced induction.

I seriously doubt the integrity of these numbers. Explain to me how a throttle body spacer gives you anything?

This was the first link when I did a quick Google. http://www.carsdirect.com/aftermarke...e-body-spacers

When I installed it I took the negative off the battery. I then drove 3 hours on the highway ~65-70 and got 19.3 as the max when I used to get 15.4 max at the same speeds. I also did manual calculations which got roughly the same results.

Next I filled back up and drove strictly only through the city (I took the negative off again to reset it), speed ranged from 35-50. The max I had when I was on empty was 15.5 when it used to be 13.2.

At the end of the article it does say they can be hit or miss, but I bought it used for $60 to see it it was worth it and to me it has been. That was in May, I can still do the manual reset button in the cab to reset the mpg and it still will climb back up the 15/19 range for me, I've done it a couple times just to check.

Background information on the truck. 05 Lariat 2wd, 117k on it, 5k on new Motorcraft plugs, K&N filter been on for 8k, Rancho leveled with QLs and 9000XLs (15k), SIDO exhaust (15k).

I heard changing to 4.56 or at least 4.10 improves city mileage, also heard that it hurts highway though. Is that true?

Also op about the phasers, I may be wrong but I think replacing the solenoids solves that. I may be thinking of something else though I'm not sure.
