There are several sources for getting the study material. My favorite is the Gordon West series. http://www.gordonwestradioschool.com/ He have books as well as audio CD's so you can listen. You can get a free copy of the entire question pool for the Tech exam here; http://www.ncvec.org/page.php?id=349

Other wise you would need to revert to the ashtray mod and possible take to an electronics shop and have them mod a cooling fan on heat sink! I use an external palomar 225 now so I dont have that problem! I just ordered my new 2 driving 8 from fatboy! Maybe ill catch some of you on the skip! Here is a couple pics of install!

For my in-dash unit, I finally went with a cobra 19...yea I know its small but hear me out...I removed the fold out cup holder and the plastic guts behind it. If you look at the very back, about 7 or 8 inches back, there are 2 metal brackets with a plastic tab in the middle. I broke off the plastic tab and my coax runs right in between the 2 metal pieces into the back of my radio perfectly. I got some industrial velcro and attatched it to the radio and the bottom of the old cup holder spot and all done. I have a external speaker that I clip on to my drivers side visor. To make up for the little wattage that my radio puts out (around 4-5 watts) I got a linear 350watt that is sitting in arms reach on the floor on the transmission hump. Im up in maine and I shoot skip to virginia loud and clear. little ol 787 out

I have a Uniden Grant XL that has been tweaked and peaked, crystals tuned and variable power put in. Its been sitting in my tool box for years and now that I have a 05 F150 regular cab I decided to put it in. Given the depth of the radio and the fact that I like the factory radio I took out the pad from the tray on top of the radio and used a 1/4 inch piece of wood for filler for the CB mount, drilled a couple of holes and secured with screws. I also drilled a 1 inch hole for wires to run through. I will purchase one of the stake hole mounts for the antenna. I know its probably not as attractive as I most would like, but its functional, easily accessable and gets it back into use.

Now the challenge will be mounting the amp, perhaps under the seat with a remote switch next to the lighter. tough choice.
