2nd the new explorer, they're awesome! Jeeps tend to have design issues (my wife had one) that end up costing more down the road. They could have fixed them by now, but my wife had a 2002 and I had to work overtime on that thing...

They had some issues but man I loved those body styles. I had an 04 trail edition or something like that. It was amazing.

My ol' lady has an 06 grand cherokee 4x4 and she gets about 2 mpg's more than my pickup. So if you are going for fuel economy I would have to agree with the above statements.

IF you are looking at going smaller I would say the Ford Flex.
Weird lookin' little things but we looked at one to replace the jeep but just couldn't do it.

My wife loves her '10 Honda CRV. It's not the most capable of all vehicles, but it does pretty good on gas and seats 4-5 adults comfortably. Also has all the air bags (curtain, side included) as standard equipment. The AWD works really well and if you don't plan on towing or off roading, it sounds like a good fit. The only thing that annoys me, it doesn't have auto sensing headlights unless you buy the most expensive package.

I like the new explorer too. And I second the CRV, why inlaws have 2 and they're great SUV's and very capable.

My wife has a navigator and I'm trying to talk her into downsizing soon...we don't need 2 gas guzzlers!

The new Explorer is supposed to be a nice car

I like the new Grand Cherokee it is very nice, and the new Durango is something to have a look at

If you are staying with Ford, have a look at the Edge if it's not too small

I'm a lot man at a dealership and I basically get paid to drive stuff around. I'd say that either the new Explorer or the new body Edge. New Edge has a lot of space, looks really nice inside and out, and above all, is FAST. The Sport version is really nice. Drive the fam around in a crossover that has some *****. Plus it's good on gas.
