Default Bed Rail Caps

First of all I apologize if this has been covered. I tried doing a search and got nothing.

I have a 2006 Flareside FX4 with 6.5 bed. I am trying to get rid of the old plastic bed caps, and get something steel or aluminum so that I can get it
line-xed to match the rest of the bed. The problem I am running into is that it doesn't seem like anyone carries anything for flaresides. I have looked at Putco and a couple of others.

If anyone know's of anyone that carries something like this, it would be really helpful.

if i was going to have my bed done i would just have them do the over the rail right on the bed rail itself. take all the plastic/diamond plate stuff off and just have them put it right on the body itself. my friend had this done to his and really likes it.

The problem with that is that the bed is designed to work with the plastic bed rail caps. So if you take off the plastic its going to look very unfinished with holes in the bed and it will be sorely obvious that the bed caps are missing.

rubbinsracin,

I had originally planned on doing it just like you mentioned. I asked them if it was possible and the line-x dealer stated that late model F150 bed rails and tailgates do not have level surfaces all the way down the surface area. He said that what happens is you have dips and undulations where the tabs actually insert for the plastic covers. They said they could do it, but that it would not look right because the surfaces wont be level and will dip down in certain points.

I included a pic with the raised levels on the tailgate, they are a little hard to make out.

dare i say this but i WAS a bowtie guy for a long time. but i have now repented!!!

i must say as a dirt track racer, i have come to love the small block chevy and how easy/cheap it is to put power to them. our rules make it impossible to be competitive with a ford/chrysler product with the limitations to the heads. i will say i run ford 300 inline 6 rods in our chevy motor to increase the stroke and MAMA does it put the power down!about the only thing the rules dont specifically tell you a part number to run is the rods. it just says you must run stock style rods. doesnt specify that you have to run chevy rods in a chevy motor! had to find a way to work in some blue oval parts!

That was tongue in cheek. I drove GM in my earlier life and worked in GM dealers. The incredibly poor quality (mostly build, but definitely some in choice of vendors and standard of parts quality) in the '80's is what caused me to depart GM. The quality was so poor it was absolutely unacceptable. Turned to Ford and never looked back. I know there are lemons in all brands, but can honestly say, in all the used and new that I've owned, there have virtually NO problems. One thing I have to credit Chevy for is the amount of power they're able to get out of a pushrod engine.
Clever about the Ford 300 6 rods. Wonder what that Chevy thinks about that. Probably goes so fast because it's trying to get away from those "foreign" parts in it!
