bed liner
what are the pros and cons of herculiner...figure yeah if you can save a few bucks then go for it. line-x is right up the street and will cost about 400 for my 5.5 foot bed...seems kind of steep
It'll never look as good as Line-X or hold up like it. DIY bed liners have a texture like brownie batter before you bake it. Line-X is very fine and clean looking. Here's a write up by a guy who used Herculiner. Read the update towards the bottom.

"What I wasn't happy to see was that it didn't take much weight shifting around to scuff it up pretty good. The first time it happened (which I didn't get pics of) was when we loaded a full pallate of topsoil into the bed about one week after putting the Herculiner on."
"About three weeks later I helped a friend move some furniture and the Herculiner got torn up pretty bad again. Oddly enough, I had even laid out a bedsheet in the bed to protect the furniture from the Herculiner. The furniture we moved wasn't all that heavy and nothing was shifting around much as I had strapped everything down. The damage came from loading and unloading the truck."
As I've stated before, I beat the hell out of my Line-Xed bed with lobster traps weighing 40lbs each stacked high and dragged across the bed, along with 500lb vats (fish coolers) with ice....not so much as a scratch in the liner. DIY bed liners are basically paints. Line-X is nothing like that, it dries in seconds. I paid ~$475 I think, so $400 seems like a great deal. Lifetime warranty and piece of mind that you'll never have to worry about it.
