Default Banks CAI

Hi there, new to the forum. I have been lurking and reading for while and figure I might as well post.
I came a across a deal on a used Banks Cold air intake for $100, complete off of a guys '08 truck he traded in. At this price, with everything there....I cant go wrong right? Currently the only nonstock "performance" parts on my truck is a drop in K&N air filter and a glasspack with a dump inplace of the factory muffler/tailpipe. Any thoughts or concerns?

*side note - Just picked up a set of used 35x12.50 KM2's to test out....I'll be posting pics soon and giving a review of the 35's on my leveled '06.

5.4, I guess the running lean will be counter productive to putting it on(loss of power and MPG ). This will be corrected with a tuner right? IF so, I can get it, and just wait to install for when I can buy a tuner.

From what I hear, yes. Get a Gryphon with the custom programs and you shouldn't have a problem.

My wife is gonna love this conversation"Yah honey, the intake I just bought for a great deal looks great, but I forgot to tell you, I wont actually gain that "claimed" MPG or HP unless I drop $600 on a custom tune"....
Is the Leaning just with the Banks Cold Air Intake? or is it something that comes with alot of the Air Intake systems? I did alot of searching and dont recall hearing much of the issue on other intakes...I did remember hearing about someone haveing the leaning out prob with the banks..so I am not incredibly shocked to hear you say that.

Haha yeah good luck with that conversation! And it's all intakes. I have the K&N intake and I didn't know this either until someone on here told me that unless I get custom tunes to account for the intake it's going to run "lean". But I already have the Edge Evo so I'm just gonna ship it out and get it switched to Gryphon with the custom tunes.

That conversation is better.... 7 yrs of marriage and 10 yr together...I think I can re-word it to work with the $420 without me being buried in the backyard.

Thanks guys.

Since we are on the subject - how would a throttle body spacer work into the equation...probably make the running lean even worst right? or not change anything?

^ Throttle body spacers do nothing on a fuel injected motor. If you must get the intake at least get the custom tunes for it. There's still the matter of filtration efficiency though.
