Default Ball Joint Help

I started installing my AS leveling kit yesterday. Everything was going smooth until I tried taking the nut off of the ball joint bolt. The bolt spins no matter what I put on it and I've already tried vice grips. I believe I've already knocked it loose it moves freely I just can't get the nut off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

there is a 10mm hex on the end part of the ball joint, slide a 21mm open wrench onto the ball joint nut, then put the 10mm wrench on the bottom hex to hold it from spinning.

this is why you take the nut completely off before knocking it loose.

I ran into the same thing this past weekend. Schissler is spot on, that is what I did and torqued it back to spec and she was ready to rock.

X4 on the wrench and socket. Had the same problem. Took a bit of looking at it but there is a hex fitting on the upper part of the bolt, below the nut, that keeps it from spinning.

I installed a 2" leveling kit on mine yesterday, and I had the same problem. I was able to slide the boot up and get a pipe wrench around the ball joint. Vice grips didn't work for me. I had the same problem when i went to put the nut back on, even after I cleaned up the threads on the bolt. It seemed the issue for me was the loctite inside the nut. I heated the nut up with a torch to get all the loctite out, and reapplied fresh loctite and I was able to get it back on.

I was highly frustrated. I called the ford dealership here in town, their advice..."cut off the ball joint and buy a new upper control arm" I'm glad I used a little common sense instead!!

Also you can try to use a hammer to try to tap the ball joint into the taper to hold it, or use your pickle fork ball joint remover to put pressure on it. But like others said if it has a head on it just hold it with a wrench

I have a question regarding leveling. When you go to put everything back is it a good idea to use loctite on all the fasteners?
