Bad VCT, 14 different codes
First off, thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I had an issue with my 05 lariet and used this forum and youtube to troubleshoot and repair it.
On my last oil change I bought 5W30 iinstead of the recommended 5WW20. About 3 weeks later, my truck started throwing codes and running rough. I read the codes and they were plenty P0330, P0171, P022, P0305, P0307, P022, P0171, P0175, P0300, P0305, P0307, P0308, P2198.
Now, all the P0300 is misfires, the last number is the cylinder. The P0170"s are 02 Sensor codes. I believe the P0022 is cam a timing over retarded.
So I took the codes and started looking. I was thinking it was due to the oil, since I was just 3 weeks out. I started looking, searching are reading. I found that the oil ports are small and that the VCT is pretty easily screwed up. So I went home and changed the oil back to 5W20. No luck truck was still messed up throwing codes. By the misfires and 02 codes all on the same side of the engine, I figured there was something on that side. So if the timing was over retarded, then that would cause the 02 codes. So I took a semi educated guess at the VCT. So I changed that and it ran like a champ. I did find a messed up screen on the VCT, and it was the new style of VCT that ford came out with. No varnish on it, and it looks like it just came out the package. So I wonder if the thicker oil was the culprit.
