Default Bad Muffler

I just bought a 2004 F150 5.4L Fx4 with 57000 miles. The muffler is starting to rust through at the seams and I was wondering if I should replace it with a stock Ford muffler or go after market/performance parts. I know next to nothing about exhaust systems and this is my first F150. I want to know if different mufflers can affect the MPGs positively or negatively. I also want that deep rumbling that a large truck should have.

For the money, I'd say replace it with an aftermarket muffler. If you're looking for the rumble, consider a single in dual out or true dual set up. Not sure how much just replacing just the stock muffler will give you, but will surely give you some tone. Do some research on Youtube to see wether you'd like a chambered muffler like flowmasters or a glass pack type sound. Good luck!

True duals bro. I did it to mine and i love em. But im thinkin about pulling my mufflers and putting cherrybombs or something for it to be louder

You could do it fairly cheap with just a muffler replacement or get pretty expensive depending on if you go duals. All depends how much you want or are willing to spend.
