Default Bad MPG

I have a 2004 f150 5.4l 3v. I am only getting 11mpg.. I have 34 nitto trail grappler's. I know that with these tires I am not going to be getting excellent mileage, but I would like to be getting better than 11. Any suggestions? The truck has 109,000 miles on it and I also have the k&n cold air intake with a throttle body spacer. The exhaust is x piped with no muffler.

That's actually pretty normal for your truck.

I would pick up a tuner first off. Try to keep RPMs under 2000. Then get either underdrive pulleys or e-fans or both.

BTW, your probably better off ditching your tb spacer and cutting a pound of worthless weight

Well I was getting around 12.5-13mpg before I had the grapps.. My mileage really went down when I put the k&n intake on, which I though it was supposed to help not hurt.

You might be driving more aggressively with it on. My gas mileage goes down every time I mod my truck just because I have more fun with it.

I have read the posts about the 3v's running dangerously lean without a tuner and an intake. Do you think it is running lean and that causes bad mpg?

It's really up to you. Do some research on your own and find out what you like best. Most guys on here I think run an sct or an edge. I have the edge cs and I love it. I plan on upgrading it to a gryphon sometime in the near future

If your running lean your actually using less fuel than needed.

There is a TON of info on this site about tuners. Just take a few hours and educate yourself
