"BAD CD" message
Hi,
Just bought a 2004 F150 with basic factory CD player. At first I thought the CD error was due to using burned CDs, but I get the same message w/perfectly legit CDs. HELP?! is this a common problem? I can't seem to find a solution & would like some advice/input.
Thanks all!

2002 F150 stock single CD Player, having "BAD CD" error messages for years. I tried a cleaner disk with no luck.
Took apart last week and blew it out with compressed air, there was a LOT of dust in there, probably because there is a little computer like cooling fan built into top of radio that runs all the time. Did not work any better after air blow out.
Took apart again and cleaned the lense with rubbing alchohol and Q-tip, works GREAT now!
Super easy, they sell the two removal tools you need to pull unit from dash at best buy for $13, or walmart for $6. I made my own by cutting and bending a wire hangar. You need a T-9, and T-10 Torx drivers to remove the screws from the unit, there are only 2 that hold the top on and then it snaps off, and 4 that hold the cd player into the unit inside, once you unscrew the unit you can pick it out and shine a flashlight inside to see the clear lense. If you want to you can remove the ribbon wiring that just clips into the underside of the cd unit, it's easy to put back in, or not, your choice.
You can move the white plastic gear on the bottom of cd unit if you need the lense to be more accessable to the hole in the metal cage, but basically dip a Qtip in Alchohol and rub the thing well, then with the dry side, reassemble, reinsert in dash and you are good to go.

My 2000 lariat cd play makes noise like it is trying to eject with no cd inserted. Reads Bad Disc. Even with the ignition off. Inserting a CD plays fine but when empty it still is running. Any good ideas for a fix?
