Default Auto headlights are dim?

I'm having a strange issue with my auto lamps on my truck. The headlights are dimmer than the light put out when the switch is turned on manually. Also when in the auto position there is an occasional flickering, and when I switch between high/low beams the lights shut completely off for a few seconds then come back on (talk about scary when this happens on a dark backroad going into a curve.) The lights work normally if I turn them on manually, but I like the auto feature and would like to fix it. Anyone had an issue similar to this and have any ideas? Bad switch possibly?

Well in case anyone is following this thread, a new switch made no difference at all. The auto lights are dimmer when they work than the lights are when turned on manually. Also, occasionally the auto headlights will not turn on at all, however the parking lights and interior lights come on. Somebody told me the auto lights are controlled by the security module behind the passenger seat. If that's the issue I guess I'll just deal with it.

all that is controlled by the body control module. It's a computer that I believe is under the dash on driver's side. If you find it check connections and ale sure they're clean. Check the voltage when lights are dim. If in the 11 volt range that's likely your problem. If voltage is good then it may be a grind issue
