Post Anyone have this problem when changing oil?

So I came up on 55,000 miles and changed my oil today. When I drained it I noticed that it was a lot dirtier looking than what I ususally see during an oil change, but thought nothing of it. I swapped out the filter and went to put in the new oil. I took the cap off of the fill port and noticed that insde the cap there was some thick yellow junk built up on the cap and was on the top of the fill pipe as well. I haven't seen anything like that and was wondering if anyone has seen it or has any idea what's going on?? Thanks!

You do mostly short trips, correct?

That is normal for people who only do short trips with their vehicle and often don't allow it to warm up before use.

Its a result of condensation in the oil... There was a long thread about it not long ago. Try searching sludge and see if you can get some results

Thanks! Yeah, I'm usually not doing more than two and a half miles at a time. I started working closer to home in the last few months, which would explain why I haven't seen it while changing oil before...

I work in an auto shop and I see that gunk all the time on crysler's and other makes with there v-8s and v-6s, never seen it on any other makes but it is harmless as stated.
