Well I just got it back frorm the dealer, and what do you think they said. Well it didnt throw any codes, so they can't fine any problem. I know I feel it. Oh well will see what happens in a few weeks. Other than that the truck is great. You guy are also great with all the responds to my questions and concerns. I think I'll have to take a chance on the wheels and see how it works out. I'll keep you guys informed. thanks for all the input it is greatly appriciatd.

Thanks,
Jimbo

Hey Jimbo, I just read this thread and I have had the same "hiccup" at idle. It has been inconsistant and has never happened when I'm on the throttle. I have 8,000 miles on the truck with no other issues and in my opinion this is still the smoothest truck I ever had allthogh I am a bit old school. (my first truck I used a stick between the seat and gas pedal for a choke in 1980)

nashtruck your right about it being a smooth truck, I had a Chevy s10, I had a Dodge Dakota and this truck just kill's those hands down so far. I did have a 78 Bronco that I totally rebuilt that was pretty bada** though, but so far I just love this truck, truck on the outside and luxury car on the inside, best of both worlds. Thanks for responding.

Aloha,
Jimbo

Lightbulb ENG idle "stumble"

jimbo (and ALCON)
Greetings to all here! I am one of the newest members to this forum and it is a long time coming (I've owned my truck for about 2+ yrs now)
Anyway, the hesitation you talk about is a problem that FORD has addressed with this particuliar ENG. I took mine in to the dealer yrs. ago in the hopes they would remap the computer. I had heard it becomes a "new" truck once the PCM is remapped! Mine has never hesitated, so it was a long shot for me. After one day at the shop, the dealer told me the exact same thing he told you, i.e., no codes! I am currently deployed overseas and can't get you a reference for the TSB. If you can get the TSB number (the subject is "ENGINE HESITATION," or something to that effect) you can take that in with you. From what I've read, depending upon the dealership and manager/mechanic, they will remap for you to keep you from coming in over, and over, and over. Good luck!
I also want to thank you ALL here for the great insight and wealth of knowledge here.
Zach

Hey Zach,
Thanks for the info. The service guy did tell me they did a remap with the most current updates, but who knows if they really did it or not. I still feel that really slight skip at idle but I'm still not sure if it's doing it while the revs are up or not. I'll see if I can find any info. on the TSB your talking about. If I find it I'll post it. And Zach thank YOU for defending our country and be safe.

Aloha,
Jimbo

Drive by wire has a noticeable "stumble/miss". The edge tuner fixed that.
A suggestion.....pull/inspect the cop & the boot for arcing or high voltage tracking(also any degredation of the boot material). Use dielectric compound in the boot to prevent moisture causing arcing.
There are many threads about this on other F-150 forums.
Good luck.

As far as the idle prob..my 98 had a slightly rough idle that was never resolved. My 05..same deal. Dealer diagnosed it last week and couldn't resolve. They gave me a copy of service bulletin #05-22-08: 1996-2006 various Vehicles:WDS COP Kit Diagnostic Tips-Coil on Plug Ignition Systems-Engine Misfire or Rough Idle
Email me if you want a copy, its alot of tech. talk. Oddly enough, they gave me a loaner while my truck was in service (02 XLT) and it had same issue.

Thanks for the info. stix. Did you get it resolved or is the problem still there?
And Happy Thanksgiving to all.
