I have a roaring noise coming from the right side of my truck. Can hear it going straight and gets worse turning to the left. My thoughts were the right hub and bearing assembly so I changed it as well as the right CV axle. Can't tell if its coming from the front or rear for sure now. I have also rotated the tires and it did not change anything. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Its a 07 f150 4x4

 

No rubbing from the tires? Kinda tough to know what a "roaring" noise is. Does it get louder with speed? Or is it constant? Have you checked all fluids in diffs, tranny, engine, Xcase? Exhaust manifold leak?

Your CV and hub shouldn't be engaged during 2wd driving. So those replacements may have not been neccesary. But you might want to check the entire IWE system for leaks. If it is leaking, it will engage that hub. It needs to hold pressure to stay in 2wd

 

The roaring is the same roaring that a bad wheel bearing would make, like I got mud tires on it. The CV axle still turns when its in 2wd and needed replaced anyways so figured it couldn't hurt. Nothing seems to be rubbing so I'm kind of at a loss.

 

Does it do it when in 4WD ?

 

Does it in both 2&4wd and doesn't matter if your on the gas or just coasting it does not change. Sounds to me like it has to be a bearing somewhere but I can't figure it out.

 

what about brake and rotors...got a rock or something stuck in there ??

 

Had them all apart when I changed the bearing assembly and didn't see anything. Gonna try swaping the right and left bearings tomorrow to see if it changes sides.

 

Why does the CV shaft spin in 2WD? I thought that if the hub isn't engaged, and the transfer case isn't engaged, then the diff wont spin therefore the CV wont spin. Someone correct me if I'm wrong? To me it sounds like your hub is engaging when it shouldn't (have a leak somewhere in the system).

 

Don't know why they spin but they both do and have since it was new.

 

no spin in 2wd... must have a vacuum leak allowing the iwes to remain engaged
